How to Choose a Long-Lasting Perfume

Longevity comes down to three things: concentration, the note structure, and how you apply it. Here is a simple framework for choosing a perfume that lasts, and getting the most from the bottle you already own.

1. Start with concentration

Fragrance strength is set by the percentage of perfume oil. Eau de toilette is lighter and fades faster; eau de parfum is stronger; extrait de parfum (pure parfum) is the most concentrated and the longest lasting. Every Zam Zam fragrance is an eau de parfum or extrait de parfum for exactly this reason.

2. Read the base notes

Top notes fade first; the base is what lingers. Heavy, low-volatility materials, oud, amber, musk, vanilla, sandalwood, patchouli and leather, last the longest. A scent built on these will still be present hours later.

3. Apply for longevity

Spray onto moisturised skin at pulse points (neck, wrists, inner elbows) and let it dry without rubbing. A light mist on clothing extends the trail further, since fabric holds scent longer than skin.

In Dubai's heat, reapply once midway through the day if you are outdoors for long stretches.
